What the office is working towards

Six things the constituency needs, and what is being pushed for on each.

  • A cleaner Kalyani

Waste clearance, cutting single-use plastic, and regular cleaning at municipal and panchayat level — keeping a planned town worthy of the name.

  • Roads and drainage

Repairing ward and gram panchayat roads, renewing drainage so the monsoon does not leave water standing, and street lighting where it is missing.

  • Access to healthcare

AIIMS Kalyani and the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital stand inside this constituency. The work is to make sure ordinary residents actually reach them.

  • Education and young people

In a town with a university, an IIIT and a government engineering college, local young people should get the same chance — with training and skills as the focus.

  • Industry and jobs

Taking the problems of the small and medium units in the Kalyani industrial belt to the state, and using the expressway link to widen the chance of work close to home.

  • Hearing people out

Hearing residents of the two municipalities and seven gram panchayats regularly, writing each matter down, and carrying it to the department concerned.

The town he represents

Kalyani is not an ordinary seat. This is some of what stands inside it.

Kalyani was laid out as a planned township after independence — the foundation stone was laid on 24 February 1951, and the town, with its wide avenues, underground drainage and block-by-block plan, is credited to Bidhan Chandra Roy.

  • AIIMS Kalyani

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences

  • University of Kalyani

In Block C — one of the state's principal universities

  • Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital

A 500-bed hospital and medical college

  • IIIT Kalyani

A centrally funded institute of information technology

  • Kalyani Government Engineering College

Among the state's established technical colleges

  • National Institute of Biomedical Genomics

India's national institute for genome research

  • Kalyani industrial belt

Block D — small and medium industry

  • Kalyani Stadium

National-level football, and the Bengal Cricket Academy ground

A seat held, and widened

Trinamool Congress won Kalyani in 2011 and again in 2016. The BJP took it in 2021 by almost exactly one percentage point. In 2026 the seat returned the largest margin in its recent history.
