What the numbers say

Two things changed at once. More people voted — turnout rose almost eight points to 93.32 per cent, among the highest anywhere in the state. And the seat stopped being marginal: a 2,206-vote win became a 34,792-vote win, with the BJP share up 9.08 points and the Trinamool Congress down 6.06.
